Bake Sale?

April 18, 2009

2:00 p.m. update:  If you missed a trip to Mary Branch, you can still score some baked goods.  Tori Saenz's dad, Eric, okayed a move to the front of the College Station WalMart for the unsold tasty treats.  Thanks everyone!

Okay.  This is sort of a convoluted story, but . . . for our local readers, a window of opportunity will open and close today.  The Southwest chapter of the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation (these are really awesome folks!!!) had planned a bake sale to raise money for Lunch for Life at the Earth Day Festival in The Woodlands today.  Even more incredibly, they planned to donate all the proceeds to Lunch for Life in Erin's memory.

The rain god had another plan.

Organizers cancelled the festival about 5:00 yesterday evening. . .after all the bakers had baked goodies--tasty and perishable goodies.

By a quarter to six, they had made an alternative plan.

Erin's old elementary school, Mary Branch, has their annual carnival today--indoors!  The bake sale will go on as planned, in Bryan instead of at The Woodlands.

If you have a hankering for baked goods (individually wrapped and whole cakes and pies, mostly organic in the spirit of Earth Day) stop by the Mary Branch Elementary Spring Carnival at 2040 W. Villa Maria between 10:00 and 2:00.  This is a wonderful use of a rainy Saturday.  And think about it.  You have probably already eaten all the chocolate bunny ears in your house.  It's time to replenish your stock of tasty treats.

  1. Thanks for the suggestion. I did get tasty treats and a couple more lanyards as well. Not only are the bunny ears gone, but the whole rest of them as well.

  2. I made 2 more trips back to the sale (I really do love my sister) to get 2 t-shirts and 2 more Erin lanyards. I refrained from any additional baked goods though. My butt's big enough!

  3. Hey Erin Fans of Bryan!
Hi - thanks to so many of you who were able to come out to our sales today. It was great to see so many of you out and about.

We were all feeling the love that pours out for that special girl.

So far we're at $2,157 in sales that will go to the CNCF in Erin's name!!!
    Way to go.

Thank you, Vickie, for doing all you did to help make this happen. And, for keeping Hans happy and occupied during the sale.

    Much Love,
Lara, Carmen, Michelle and the whole gang of bakers:)

  4. I just got a chance to watch the beautiful tribute video from Erin's classmate Emma. It was so touching, the words from her classmates describe Erin perfectly - I can tell that even though I never had the enormous privilege to meet her.

I have been thinking about you guys every single day, and at random times my eyes tear and my heart hurts, but I think about the impact Erin made over her lifetime, and it comforts me.

Thank you so much for sharing so much with us the last few days...the tributes, the news paper articles... I know it must be amazing and hard at the same time for you to read them.

This is my favorite quote, that comforted me in the days after Liam's passing:

"Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used to. Put no difference in your tone; wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effort, no trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, somewhere very near. Just around the corner. All is well."

  7. Hey, not sure how I found you, but I found you. I became pretty enthralled with that cool kid of yours! We had one like that ourselves! caringbridge.org/la/jakeowen I just thought I would share that! OH, and I wanted to share my blog... mojoy.blogspot.com
I call it that because when we lost Jake, we opened our eyes WIDE to all the blessings around us, and I can see him saying, "Hello" to me in so many ways! I feel my life has "mo" joy, and my blog is there to let the world know that life can go on. that Erin was a trip! I wish I could have met her! Melanie
